Opera directors normally come to the staging of musical theater coming from other areas or specializations of entertainment: prose direction, film direction, scenography; or, if they train directly in the opera theater sector, they do so through an apprenticeship that passes through the role of assistant director. This highlights, to date, the lack of a high-level educational path specifically aimed at the training of this professional figure, which is of great importance in the current Italian and international entertainment system.
The Master in Opera Direction therefore aims to offer, to all those who intend to acquire high professional skills in the field of staging operas, a specific training course aimed at achieving technical skills relating to the composition of the opera. stage action and theatrical direction of the singers. This objective is achieved through didactic-laboratory work and internships in direct contact with the artistic production activity of the Arena Foundation and other affiliated Italian and European theatres. The practical activities will be constantly supported by the indispensable offer of theoretical culture - historical and aesthetic - and by the tools for an in-depth analysis of the dramatic-musical text, which the director's training cannot ignore.
Goals
The Master in Opera Direction aims to provide the professional and cultural skills necessary to carry out the role of director in the specific field of musical theatre.
Teachers of clear national and international fame will be constantly supported and supported by the professionalism of the teachers of the organizing institution to offer participants the widest and most complete theoretical and technical training.
The main course, in addition to a basic preparation aimed at the acquisition and deepening of skills relating to the planning of the direction plan and the composition of movements and scenic action, will put students in contact with the particular problems of staging of an opera, referring to the relationship with the musical direction, with the actorial dimension of the singers, with the characteristics of the stage space, the complexity of the scenographic layout, the articulation of the stage movements.
