University accommodation
The cheapest accommodation is that provided by the ESU agency of the University of Verona. It is generally in small apartments for students with shared bedrooms. Most of the apartments are not central, but on convenient bus routes. For further details (on locations and prices), visit the ESU website ( www.esu.vr.it , then click on the house icon). Payment in advance (for each semester) is always required.
Anyone wishing to apply for ESU accommodation is strongly advised to contact the Conservatory before the end of August.
Private accommodation
If you are looking for accommodation in a single room in the city centre, you are advised to use the private accommodation market. The prices are normally higher (between 300 and 400 euros a month for a single room). If you are happy to share a room and/or live in a less central area, the prices are lower.
The most efficient way of finding private accommodation is through the following websites: www.easystanza.it
www.alloggiostudenti.sos.vr.it
They all require you to register. Some (particularly easystanza, which is perhaps the most efficient) ask for some payment. It is probably worth it.
Language courses
Incoming students are encouraged to know as much Italian as they can before arriving, as it is the language in which they will have their lessons. Many of the teaching staff speak little or no English.
At the moment the school does not provide regular Italian language classes. If they wish, incoming students can attend the free language classes offered by the Language Centre (Centro Linguistico di Ateneo or CLA) of the University of Verona before each of the university semesters. Information on these courses will be published on the webpage of the CLA: http://centri.univr.it/cla/.
Anyone wishing to register for the University courses is advised to contact the Conservatory.

How to reach Verona
By air: the nearest airports are Verona and Verona-Brescia (for Ryan Air flights to London and Frankfurt). The Verona airport is about 20 minutes from the city centre; Brescia about an hour. From both airports there is a shuttle service to the main railway station of Verona. The airports of Bergamo, Venice, Treviso and Bologna are alternatives, requiring 1-2 hours further travel.
By rail: the station of Verona Porta Nuova is positioned on both the east-west line from Milan to Venice and the north-south line from Munich to Rome.
DAVID’S GUIDE
For further information on the experience of living in Verona, we are pleased to attach the following handbook, written by David Hatfield Lunde and based on his own experiences as a foreign student in Verona.
It is a ‘personal guide’ and David himself stresses that it will need constant updating and correction, so please send messages with suggestions or criticisms either to Hugh Ward-Perkins, the Erasmus coordinator, at internazionale@conservatorioverona.it or to Cecilia Negri, the Erasmus administrative assistant, at ufficioprogetti@conservatorioverona.it
