I. CORSI ORDINARI (TRADITIONAL CONSERVATORIO COURSES)
These courses are of varying length, ranging from 5 (singing) to 10 years (piano, organ, strings, etc.). Each course is divided into different ‘periods’. At the end of the periodo inferiore (lower period) and the periodo medio (middle period, if present) the student must take an esame di compimento (intermediary exam). The periodo superiore (final period) ends with the exam for a diploma. During the course of the different periods various exams must be taken in other subjects (solfeggio, harmony, history of music, piano, chamber music, stage singing, etc.)
Depending on the instrument or subject chosen, there are different minimum and maximum age limits for those applying for entrance.
Lessons are in Italian.
Courses offered
• Composition, wind-band arrangement
• Organ, piano, harp, guitar, singing, strings (violin, viola, cello, double bass) woodwind (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone) brass (horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba), percussion
• Early Music (lute, harpsichord, viola da gamba, flute)
Fees (for 2007-8)
Admission exam fees: € 6,04
Attendance fees: € 150
Government tax: € 27,47
n.b. concerning the 6.04 euros for the admission exam: since this is a complicated payment to make from abroad, students may make the payment on arrival in Italy.
II. CORSI SPERIMENTALI (NEW COURSES OF HIGHER EDUCATION)
The Corsi Sperimentali divide into three categories
1. Diploma accademico di I° livello (triennio sperimentale) - Three-year 1st-Cycle Degree
2. Diploma accademico di II° livello (biennio sperimentale) - Two-year 2nd-Cycle Degree
3. Corsi di specializzazione - Courses of specialization (of varying length)
The courses are planed on a study plan, whose subject are partially compulsory and partially on student’s choice. A budget of 60 credits must be obtained at the end of each year of studies. Lessons are in Italian.
Bachelor’s and Master’s courses offered (Bachelor’s and Master’s):
• Composition, choral composition, wind-band arrangement
• Organ, piano, piano accompanist, harp, guitar, singing, strings (violin, viola, cello, double bass) woodwind (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone) brass (horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba), percussion
• Early Music (singing, violin, viola, cello, harp, lute, harpsichord, viola da gamba, recorder and flute, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, early organ, early piano)
• Music technology (sound direction, performer of electronic music, multimedial composition)
Courses of Specialization:
• Music Therapy
• One-year master in Chamber music with piano (for groups)
• Unstructured courses in Early Music (n.b. these do not lead to official academic qualifications)
Admission Requirements:
1. 1st-Cycle Degree:
• school-leaving certificate or university degree and documentation of previous musical studies
2. 2nd-Cycle Degree:
• either school-leaving exam and conservatory diploma
• or Bachelor’s degree from a Conservatory
• or university degree (or equivalent qualification)
3. Courses of specialization:
• for the Music Therapy course and the Chamber Music course the rules for the 2nd-Cycle Degree apply
• for the unstructured Early Music courses, no specific qualifications are required
n.b. For the application process it is sufficient that you declare that you possess these qualifications. You will then be asked to produce the originals (and translations) after admission and you arrival in Verona.
Admission
• The deadlines for applying may change from year to year. Candidates are advised to check during the month of April. The forms will be found on the website:

• Admission exams will be in June. CD/MP3 or DVD recordings will be accepted for those living too far away, though admission is conditioned on the candidate passing a subsequent live audition. Naturally the CD/DVD must arrive before the date fixed for the exam. n.b. The content of CD/MP3/DVD must naturally correspond to the programmes indicated for each course and each instrument, as published in the Italian website: for the 1st-Cycle Degree (click on respective pdf under Ammissioni); for the 2nd-Cycle Degree (click on the name of the instrument).
• EU students and students of Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland: make the application directly to the Conservatorio.
• Non-EU students: applications must be presented exclusively through the Italian embassy in their country (the Conservatorio is not allowed to accept direct applications). Please contact the embassy as soon as possible, since there are various deadlines and the procedures are long.
(n.b. through the embassy you may also ask about the possibility of scholarships – the Conservatory does not offer scholarships)
