Each year a number of concerts and other musical events are hosted both inside the Conservatorio itself and in other venues. So together with the performances in the new 150-seat Auditorium Montemezzi, in the smaller chamber music rooms inside the school, in the Salone of Casa Boggian and in the adjacent church of San Giorgetto, there are also events in churches and halls both in the city and in the surrounding towns and villages.
In addition to the more regular programming, concerts are often offered at the end of master classes and projects. Sometimes these are organized at very short notice. So we recommend that you check the Home Page at regular intervals!
REGULAR EVENTS
Dalle Sei alle Sette (“From 6 to 7pm”): Tuesday Concerts
From mid January through April a series of weekly concerts are offered by the more advanced students of the Conservatorio, specifically students of the 2nd-cycle degree course and Erasmus students. Each concert features a different theme or grouping: chamber music, piano recital, early music, jazz, etc. The concerts take place at 6pm on Tuesdays. Most are given in the Auditorium, though some (specifically those for Early Music) are hosted in Casa Boggian. The calendar of events and individual programmes are published on the website homepage.
Music Theatre in April
April is the month for larger-scale performances of music theatre, involving the choir and orchestra of the Conservatorio. The focus is often on children and a young audience. Recent productions include Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, Satie’s Geneviève de Brabant and Poulenc’s Babar the Elephant.
The events are organized in collaboration with the Fondazione Arena di Verona and the Teatro Nuovo of Verona.
Saggi Finali (End-of-Year Concerts)
From mid-May until the end of the month there is a densely packed series of daily concerts (both afternoon and evening) offering performances by the best pupils from each class of the Conservatorio. This naturally includes the younger students from the junior departments. Along with half-hour concerts dedicated to each instrument (violin, oboe, percussion, etc. etc.) are also be concerts of chamber music, compositions, orchestra, symphonic band, choir, etc.
Concerti del Chiostro (Summer concerts in the cloister)
This is the main summer event. From the beginning of June to the end of July there are weekly concerts in the fine Cloister of the Conservatorio: an excellent space for musical events of all kinds.
Every year the Conservatorio likes to feature at least one concert from a guest school. In the past we have hosted wonderful performances from young musicians from the Conservatoire of Munich, the Polytechnic of Tampere and the University of Bucarest. We are always open to suggestions, so please contact us if you are interest. And perhaps we can help with the expenses (travel, food and accommodation). Please contact the international office internazionale@conservatorioverona.it
Musicalmente Parlando (“Musically speaking”)
A series of conferences given by teachers of the Conservatorio on subjects of their own interest. Attention is given to themes that connect music and other areas of intellectual and artistic life. The Conservatorio collaborates with the Academy of Art in Verona (Accademia Cignaroli).
SOME OTHER REGULAR PROJECTS
The Classical Style
A yearly event (generally lasting four days) in which students, professionals and amateurs from all over the world descend on Verona to take part in a unique project: a marathon on the Classical style (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven) with period instruments. Participation is free of charge, so if you play a period instrument, please contact Lorenzo Coppola at guyalorenzo@telefonica.net or Carmen Leoni at carmen.leoni@tin.it
They will be pleased to hear from you.
The next event is expected to take place in February 2008.
Verona Risuona
An innovative workshop concerning “urban sounds” conducted by Staffan Mossenmark from the Academy of Music of Göteborg (Sweden). Last year, 30 April 2007, about 150 people (students and ordinary citizens) prepared and took part in a series of completely unique spectacles.
Thanks to its success the event will be repeated in April 2008.
Verona-Tampere Composition Project
A new project, starting this academic year (2007-8). The students of Composition and Music Technology in the Conservatories of Tampere (Finland) and Verona will work together to produce original ‘joint compositions’. ICT (Internet and Communications Technologies) will be used to assist the process of collaboration and exchange of materials.
Performance of the completed works will make place in both cities in Spring 2008.
